Educational bee yard

Hands-on class, optional, 2nd part of Beekeeping for Beginners

June 6th, 11:00 am – 2:00 pm

You will be handling a brood frame with a foundation-less comb, learning how to recognize eggs, open brood in various stages, how the healthy capped brood looks like and what to look for to check if there is any trouble with it. There will be also a demonstration how to install a nuc in the regular hive. And more.

Length: 3 hours
Cost: $40

Participants will need a protective gear (hat, veil) and closed toed footwear. Long sleeves and light colored material clothing is suggested. Please bring your own protective head gear. A simple bug jacket or mosquito veil will suffice. Water bottles are recommended. A notebook and pencil could be handy.

Class must be prepaid to reserve your spot. Space is limited.

The trip includes an open beehive demonstration and hands-on experience of working with bees. Also we will talk briefly about bee biology, small scale beekeeping, and common mistakes of first-time beekeepers. You do not need any beekeeping experience to participate.
